I Want My Baby Back
Awkward title, I know. But hear me out. Look above... that's my bike (baby). And today it was stolen. Abducted. Seized. You get the picture. Anyway my beautiful Haro Escape 8.1 mountain bike was stolen, and now I'm pissed. I don't know if that word is appropriate or not, but I'm still pissed. The best part is, they didn't even break my bike lock to get at it. They left the lock there tied to the bike lock. Maybe they thought I wouldn't notice the bike was gone. I do not know.
But the point is that it's gone. And this has led to me to the following conclusion about the entire human race: their all scum. Every single one of you. I might be pushing it a little bit, but again, I'm pissed.
So a couple things I think you could do to avoid this tragedy happening to you. Make sure your bike is registered with the police. This makes the recovery process much easier on the police. I think. You should also have a lock with a key. Who would've known it would be easy to break those combination locks that you just have to roll 4 numbers to lock up. Unfortunately it makes it easy to break the lock as well. Exhibit A: MY BIKE! You should also consider just bringing your bike to your dorm. If I ever get mine back, I will resort to doing that.
I'll just end this with a message: If by any chance your reading this, and you stole a Haro mountain bike from Cary. Know this: one day I will find you, and when I do I will kill you. That is all.

Are you sure your lock was actually locked through the bike. I can't see someone taking the time to figure out the combo. On a 4 digit lock there are 10,000 combinations. It would take a few hours unless the combo was 1234 or 1111. I think most people would just cut you lock, takes about 1/2 a second with a bolt cutters. Another thing I see a lot is people steal the whole bike except the part you locked.
Thomas Hobbes has found his straw-man.
One of the main reasons I don't ride a bike here on campus is that I see so many cases of bike theft around. I saw a bike chained to a rack before, and someone had taken the seat, the tires, and the handlebars. I also see a lot of bikes lying around with bent tires and beat up frames. My roommate had his bike here for a while. He kept it at our apartment because he was afraid it would be stolen, and eventually just sent it home because he didn't want to lock it up outside anywhere.
