Marijuana Madness

One of my friends at UK is considering dropping out of college. He is in a pretty bad place right now. He's practically moved out of his dorm and is back at home because he blames his roommate for a lot of his problems, even though his roommate is really quiet and agreeable. He has dropped his calculus class and his chemistry class, dropping him back to 8 hours this semester. Since this isn't enough for a full time student, UK revoked his scholarship.

Why is he in such a bad place? One reason (the main reason) is that he smokes pot. A lot of pot. As another friend likes to put it, "he blazed his brains out." Now, a lot of people claim that marijuana isn't bad for you. This isn't true. Mentally, it doesn't seem to be that bad for you, other than the fact that some people get almost addicted to it, even though it isn't addictive. However, it has been shown to increase the chances of mental illness when used chronically. It is also bad physically, because smoking a joint deposits more tar in the lungs than smoking a cigarette does. The worst effect by far is the lack of judgement shown while actually high.

My friend has gotten really bad about smoking weed. He does stupid things while high, like leaving all his pot paraphernalia around his house where his parents can find it. Good thing they didn't kick him out for it. All he cares about now is getting to the next high. He plans on dropping out of college next semester to do God knows what with his life. Even though it isn't addictive, he has become addicted to it. Remember that even though it seems fairly harmless, marijuana is a drug like any other and can seriously mess up your life.

I've never smoked or anything, but people and doctors always comment about how smoking marijuana is bad for your health and that it is addictive. I saw that you said it isn't addictive, and people just think it is. How you do you know it isn't addictive? There are millions of addictions out there, including an addiction to TV. It seems strange that marijuana just isn't addictive. I'm just curious as to how you know that for a fact?

I know that you say it isn't addictive and then you say your friend is addicted to it. It just doesn't make sense haha

I would never touch drugs even once. I have a lot of heavy smokers as friends, but the thing is they weren't heavy smoker until the addition of marijuana. One of them randomly started smoking cigarettes and went through 2 packs in day! The amount of money they spend on both legal and illegal drugs is ridiculous. I wouldn't say it's an addiction. Then again like he said above me is there are a lot of addictions out there. Long story short, don't smoke, I've seen too many people get arrested, go to the hospital, and rot away from what they used to be.

I agree, it might not seem addictive but it is. It becomes a habit for people. Thats why I will never touch those things, not even cigarettes, they are too expensive, and they smell really bad.

i to know people who have had similar problems with pot, the whole thing about the adiction to it is that it is not a physical addiction like with most other drugs which is why people say it is not addicting. The addiction is however mental, people become so used to being in that state of mind that eventually they have trouble functioning when in a normal state of mind.

bloger is right. Marijuana is not physically addictive. People who smoke for a long time just start to really like and depend on the feeling they get when they smoke, so they keep doing it. It is all psychological. My friend smokes a lot of pot simply because he prefers the way he feels high, and now that he has done it for so long he really can't imagine living without it. Physically, he is fine. He could stop right now and not experience any physical side effects.
